We are very excited about this year of celebrations and thanksgiving, as we reach the 200th year of continuous ministry here at St. John's church in Ida.  When Joseph Thompson planted this church seedling in 1819 he could not have imagined the fruit that it would bear.  While remembering our pioneer past, we are even more excited about opportunities for developing a vision of how our church can move forward into a new century of growth and outreach to our communities.  We are hoping to take lots of these opportunities to pray and plan, to listen to God, and to follow the lead of the Holy Spirit, as we continue to learn about following Jesus.

Christian growth and learning will be another theme throughout the year.  Special dates to mark on your calendar include:

Saturday April 27th - Bishop Victoria Matthews- speaking on Living as God's Resurrection People

Sunday June 9th - special visit from the Anglican Primate of Canada - the Archbishop Fred Hiltz

Sunday June 23rd - central homecoming service welcoming former ministers & parishioners

Saturday Oct. 19th - Rev. Alan Hayes - St. John's Ida and the Anglican Vision for Upper Canada”

Sunday December 2nd - welcoming new Diocesan Bishop Andrew Asbil as he leads our service

Other celebrations will continue throughout the year.

In June 2019,  there will be a displays set up in the hall marking significant moments in the history and life of St. John's. These will include maps, documents, artifacts, photographs and videos.

A very special day will be our Open House for the community on August 4, which is a civic holiday.  On this day we will open our buildings and yards to the community as a way of saying "thank you" for past support.   We hope to have many activities for kids, including a bouncy castle and a wide variety of fun ideas from Messy Church and our Kids' Festival.  We might also include some things such as an historic vehicle parade, a drone display, musical performances, tours of the church and cemetery, and free refreshments.

Other special events during the year include an Evensong service lead by our wonderful choir,  and a musical afternoon on June 2, with 4 Heaven's Sake, a well-known Christian quartet.  All of these events will happen here at St. John's.

Various church groups are sponsoring other special projects.  An anniversary banner will be displayed all year on the outside of the hall.  A permanent barn quilt sign will be added to our church yard.  There will be a scattering garden added to the cemetery, a memorial tree planting in memory of family members, an anniversary cookbook, a trio of banners created by our quilters, and a new set of linens for the altar.  Other possibilities include a memorial log of past members of the church, an old time Sunday School picnic, and an Outreach addition to our library.

We are hoping that between cameras and a drone, we will have lots of photos to remind us of this special year.  Through the talents of Bill and Marion Montgomery's son, we also have a new anniversary logo which may be featured in various ways. There may also be some items available in printed form, which could be taken home as an additional memory of events.
